Charleston, SC Luggage Storage Guide

Sometimes, it’s hard to know where to store luggage when traveling. This is especially true in smaller cities like Charleston, where Google searches like “luggage storage near me” and “luggage lockers near me” may yield few results.

That’s why we put together this guide – to help you become the luggage-savvy traveler you’ve always dreamed of being.

What to do with luggage before a flight?

If you’re out and about in Charleston before a flight, we suggest storing your luggage at the Amtrak station not too far from the airport. Ticket holders can store their bags for a reduced fee, and their service frees you up to spend your pre-flight time however you wish!

What to do with luggage before check in at Airbnb?

Just about everyone who has ever used Airbnb has had this question at one point or another. You may also be wondering what to do with luggage after checking out of your Airbnb. Either way, we have some suggestions.

One of our top ideas for you is again, using Amtrak’s luggage storage services if you’re going to be in the area. If you like museums and want to learn about Charleston’s rich history, then we suggest visiting The Charleston Museum or the Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Both are great ways to enjoy your time and store your luggage.

If museums aren’t your thing, you still have another option: hotels. They can be a little bit complex, so we’re going to cover them next.

Luggage Storage Hotel Meaning

It’s just like it sounds: you take your luggage to a hotel and they store it for you while you explore. Some hotels are willing to provide this service, and some are not, depending on your circumstances. Staying there or being a rewards member both boost your chances of having them store your bags for you.

Hotel Luggage Storage Before Check-In

Sometimes, you can leave luggage at a hotel before check-in. Many hotels offer this service, and would be happy to let you store your luggage with them before checking into your room for the evening.

Can you leave luggage at a hotel after check out?

Much like dropping off luggage before checking in, many hotels will also store luggage after check-out. We suggest calling them beforehand to make sure they can do this – it all depends on their individual hotel luggage storage policy.

Will a hotel hold my luggage if I’m not staying there?

The age-old question for many travelers: can you leave luggage at a hotel you’re not staying at?

The answer: it really depends on the hotel.

Many only hold luggage for people who are staying with them. But occasionally, hotels will store luggage for anyone that asks, so there’s no harm in trying! We suggest calling specific hotels (such as Hilton hotel luggage storage) beforehand to see if they offer this service.

Pre hotel luggage storage tip: Tip! It’s common courtesy to tip the person who helps you if a hotel lets you store your bags with them. So don’t forget!

Charleston has a fascinating past and is an especially great place to visit if you’re a lover of American history.

After all, it’s essentially where the Civil War started.

History buffs will love visiting the Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, where you can take any one of several different tours that detail life in the pre-Civil War South. On the other hand, if it’s science and natural history that you love, check out The Charleston Museum!

The best part? Both of these museums will store your luggage for you during your visit; however, be aware that you will have to take your bags with you when you leave.

Other Luggage Storage Options in Charleston

Unfortunately, Charleston has few luggage storage options outside of the ones previously discussed. However, you do still have one more option: hotels.

Many hotels are willing to hold your luggage for you while you explore the city for a few hours. The chances of this happening increase if you’re a loyalty or rewards member. Being able to store your luggage with a hotel is never a sure thing, so we recommend calling them first to see if they can help you before dragging your bags over in person.
