Luggage Storage at Portland Airports

Many of the airports in the United States have stopped offering luggage storage in recent years due to security reasons.

Luckily, Portland International Airport isn’t one of them.

Instead of having to drag your bags around with you all day, take them to Portland Provisions, which is located at the north end of the baggage claim near carousel 10. They offer cheap daily storage: each regular-sized bag is $10 per day, and oversized bags are $15 per day. Drop your luggage off at their secure facility and head out on the town!

But luckily, you do still have a few more options.

First, if you plan to use the Amtrak train systems, take advantage of their luggage storage, which is free for passengers.
If you don’t intend to ride the train, you can check with nearby hotels to see if they will hold your luggage for you. Occasionally they are willing to do so – but be sure to tip!

Portland: Where the Arts Thrive

As Oregan’s largest city, Portland is known for its eco-friendliness and beautiful green spaces – not to mention its coffeehouses and breweries. Sandwiched between two major rivers, it offers close access to several National Forests. It’s also famous for its arts and culture scene, where music, theatre, and artistic expression thrives.

A Quick Guide to Portland Travel

First off, Portland is one of the most walkable (and bikeable) cities in the United States. You can get to the majority of your destinations by using a combination of public transportation and your own two feet – so bring comfy shoes! Though it’s generally considered to be a very safe city, crime does still happen, so keep your belongings close and stay in well-lit, public areas after dark.

Second, it tends to be quite rainy and cool here during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Be sure to bring an umbrella and a raincoat to stay dry.

Finally, the typical tip here is around 15-20%, which is a bit more than you see elsewhere. If you can, try to tip that much, since that’s the general expectation locally.

Things to Do and See in Portland

Portland is widely considered the biking capital of the U.S. There are many bike tours that you can take that will give you a truly local experience, and we highly recommend seeing the city this way.

If biking isn’t your thing, there’s still plenty of great things to do here! You can spend a whole day at Washington Park, where you can visit the Oregon Zoo, the historic Pittock Mansion, the Vietnam Memorial, and the stunningly beautiful Portland Japanese Garden.

Finally, if you’re in town on a Saturday, check out the Portland Saturday Market. You never know what treasure you’ll find here, and you’ll get to meet lots of friendly Portland locals.

Where to Eat

It’s not a fancy restaurant, and only takes cash, but no visit to Portland would be complete without a trip to Voodoo Doughnut. These delicious specialty donuts are cooked and served round the clock. Be prepared to stand in line, but know that it’s well worth it!

For excellent fine dining, head to Mucca Osteria for excellent Italian, or Andina Restaurant if you’re craving Latin food. You won’t be disappointed with either of these two incredible restaurants!

For a less pricey option, try Mother’s Bistro & Bar or Tasty N Sons for great American fare with vegetarian options.

But what about Portland’s famous breweries? We have the answer. Try Bridgeport Brewpub for a laid-back brewery experience, or head to Deschutes if you’re feeling touristy (trust us, it’s a destination for a reason.)
